Ivan, a young gorilla, was born in a beautiful rainforest in Central Africa. He had a twin sister named Tag. They loved playing tag with each other and their father, until he signaled "Enough!" with a special sound. Ivan was known for his love of drawing, using materials like leaves, fruit, and especially mud.
Ivan belonged to a troop, which was like his gorilla family. The troop had his father, mother, three adult females, a young male called a blackback, and two other young gorillas. Ivan's father, the silverback, was like a guide, teacher, and protector for the troop.
As Ivan grew, he learned important skills like making nests and moving through trees. He learned to be kind, strong, and loyal. Life in the jungle was perfect for him, spending days on his mother's back and playing with his troop.
One day, humans came and took Ivan and his sister away. They were kept in a dark crate. Ivan knew he had to let go of his old life to survive, but Tag couldn't, and she became very sick.
A kind human named Mack rescued Ivan and raised him like a human baby. Ivan did many human things, but he missed his gorilla family. He sometimes felt lonely and longed for the warmth of another gorilla like him.
